1228 1 Traité de chirurgie Bruno de Longoburgo s.xiii (med) French 1 r 96 v y The text was originally written in Latin, c. 1252; Godefroy quotes from it, describing it as “Brun de Lonc Burc (ms de Salis)" Godefroy, Frédéric Eugène, Dictionnaire De L'ancienne Langue Française Et De Tous Ses Dialectes Du IXe Au XVe Siècle. Paris: F. Vieweg, 1880.
0 Albucasis s.xiii (ex) French 97 r 172 v n Before it was destroyed, a researcher interested in the history of medicine had photographed the manuscript, but, tragically, these original photographs, which had been stored in Leipzig, were also destroyed during the war (see Trotter 2005, 4-5). Nevertheless, the manuscript can be virtually reconstructed based on the traces of it that do remain. Some of the original photographs were reproduced for a study of the medieval history of surgery by Karl Sudhoff (1914). Sudhoff also printed fragments of the Albucasis text for the sake of his study. Shorter fragments were also printed prior to the manuscript’s destruction for a strikingly different purpose: Fre?de?ric Euge?ne Godefroy printed sections of the text to illustrate the development of the French language for his Dictionnaire De L'ancienne Langue Franc?aise (1880; see Kittel et al. 2004, 2, 1075).
